Chefs raise the average

Due to the high demand for workers in hospitality, more than one third of open positions in the occupational area are available in the food sector (2023: 23.4 %). This strong growth is due primarily to the demand for chefs.

We already saw the impacts of the cloudier economic situation on building construction and civil engineering in the last analysis, while the interior construction area remained steady. Now, however, both have seen a significant slowdown. By way of comparison: In 2023, the share of careers in the interior construction occupational area was 40.1 %, with 29.3 % in construction. Even the career of painter, which has seen ongoing steady demand, is currently only at 49th place in the overall rankings (2023: 29).

The mild start to the year was likely responsible for the significant growth in agricultural and forestry professions, as well as among florists. They make up the largest percentage of the occupational area since data has been collected. One in ten job vacancies is directed towards landscapers seeking work. Last year, only half as many jobs were available for specialists with a green thumb.
